If you love toffee and chocolate, then you're going to love these squares! 

They are my absolute favourite. I get really excited this time of year because I know my mom is going to make a batch or two of these mouth watering squares. They don't last very long in our household so 2 batches is usually a must!

For the base you will need the following:

1/2 cup flour
3/4 cup rice krispies
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
a pinch of salt
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
1/3 cup melted butter

Mix and pack in an 8 inch pan and bake for 10 minutes on 350 degrees.

For the filling you will need:

14 ounce can of Eagle Brand milk (condensed)
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup packed brown sugar

Bring to full boil over medium heat for 5 minutes, stirring continuously. Pour over base.Chill for a few hours before continuing to the next step.
*It's very important to stir for the entire 5 minutes or the mixture WILL burn.

For the topping you will need:
1/2 cup chocolate chips
1 1/4 cup rice crispies
*you may want to add a little bit more of the chocolate chips.

Melt chipits and pour over krispies until they are well coated. Spread over caramel using fork. Chill for several hours.
*You may find that you need to add a bit more krispies to the mixture before spreading over caramel.

This recipe is pretty easy and each step is fairly quick. If you don't have enough time to sit around all day waiting for each step to be finished you can always make the base and filling the night before and then put the topping on in the morning. This works best if you're super busy, especially around the holidays!

I always associate these squares with the holidays but they are perfect for any time of year and any party or get-together.
